Arrival

I arrived to Melbourne on the morning of Tuesday 14th of March. I left my backpack at my temporary apartment and without delay I went to La Trobe University campus. Is there any point in writing all the details of a life already lived? Isn’t it better to move on to the next thing and just forget about what is done? No idea. But stubborn as I am, or as I intend to be, I will keep on with this diary, if just for the practice of my English writing sills sake. I registered for my Masters of Science by Research in Mathematics with the subject “Stability of Complex Dynamical Systems”. It didn’t take me long to find out that my tutor was away and wouldn’t come back for a few weeks. He had to leave before he’d expected because his father had passed away. I got helped by John Banks, Co-ordinator of the Graduates in Mathematics. I was showed the place where I’m about to spend two year of my life: a desk in a room shared with Ivanky and Priscilla, the other two students of the group of Reinout Quispel. In total we are 9: Reinout and David MacLaren, the professor and the assistant, 4 postdocs, 2 masters students and one PhD student. The group is divided in two major branches: dynamical systems and geometric integration. Lenart, Ivanky and I are in the chaotic side, the others work on the integrators.
